1. I believe that Columbus was far more a villain then he was a hero for several reasons

1. for saying in his journal:
-They would make fine servants . . . .With fifty men we could subjugate them all and make them do whatever we want.
-I took some of the natives by force in order that they might learn and might give me information of whatever there is in these parts.

2. on his return to spain, he said that the Indians were naive, even though he though he found India and an island of the coast of China, and said that on his next trip he would bring them as much gold and slaves as they needed.

3. When he could find no gold as he promised, he instead went on a slave raid and caught 1,500 men and women Arawak Indians and sold the best 500 into slavery

4. In trying to find gold, he cut the hands off any indian who didn't bring him a certain amount of gold after three months, since gold was hard to find, many indians were killed for trying to escape

5. In two years half of 250,000 Indians were dead on Haiti, and by 1650 the Arawaks were extinct

6. It led to Spain having total over Indians, a report showed that two spainish boys beheaded to Indian boys for fun

2. Even though Columbus "discovered" the americas. that still doesnt give an excuse to the mass genocides carried out by him and the people he served.
