LAD #15 Dred Scott

1. summarize
Dred Scott was a runaway slave who succesfully made it to Illinois. The slave's owners said that he had to be returned, however Scott sued saying that he was in a free state and therefor not a slave. However, even though he was free, he was not a citizen of the United States of America, and therefor not allowed to sue and was returned back to his owners. This decision helped widen the gap between North and South states and made Civil War closer.
