LAD # 28 Keating-Owen Child Labor Act

1. Summarize

It was the first bill made to combat child labor. This bill didn't necessarily say that children couldn't work, but said that products were banned that were made by companies that employed children or didn't follow certain guidelines. This Bill was eventually destroyed in the Hammer v. Dagenhart Supreme Court case, because it infringed on the government control of interstate commerce.

LAD #27 Wilson's First Inaugural

1. Summarize

He started by saying that congress and the president have become Democrats, meaning the nation s ready for change. He said that money and greed brought evil, which has tainted the natural goodness of Americans. Now that America was seeing this taint, it was time to restore America to its original good. He finished with saying that he wasn't going to destroy but restore, that partisan's didn't win but humanity, and that it was a day of dedication, not triumph; meaning that he is going to take the evil away, but not alter the whole country.
